Why Should You Avoid Commonly Found Processed Xylitol?

We all know that when we get a natural product in the market easily, it is likely that the product is manufactured and not extracted from nature. Xylitol, an artificial sweetener, is found naturally in many fruits and plants. Its benefits like prevention from tooth decay, treatment of ear problems in children and suitability for diabetic patients have convinced many people that xylitol is the best alternative to sugar. However, despite all these benefits, it is important to think again before making it part of your diet. This is because, for commercial purposes, it is mostly manufactured by hydrogenating sugar. As hydrogenated foods are generally harmful, it is possible that this sweetener may also cause serious side effects.

The problem of being industrially manufactured further increases when the raw materials used are GMOs (genetically modified organisms). Most of the xylitol prepared in industry is extracted from GMO corns, despite that it can also be obtained from many natural materials like fruits or birch trees. This is because when something is produced at large scale, economic methods are always preferred. Due to the involvement of such highly processed raw materials, you directly consume harmful GMOs and other unhealthy ingredients when taking processed xylitol. This causes serious damage to your digestive system, especially stomach. Xylitol may not feed undesired fungus in the body, but it creates preferable environment in intestines for the growth of harmful bacteria. Also, it does not break down in the stomach properly causing gastric problems. Furthermore, it may also cause severe health issues like stomach problems, liver failure and even disruption in the reproductive system.

Your opinion about safety and effectiveness of xylitol as an alternative to sugar may have changed after reading the above research. However, before concluding anything, you must keep in mind that naturally occurring xylitol is safer and does not cause such serious problems. As this compound is formed in the industry by using preservatives and inorganic substances, it loses its beneficial character. Industrialists and concerned entrepreneurs in manufacture of xylitol may earn more by using economical production methods, but consumers do face serious drawbacks of difficult choice for a healthy diet due to this. To avoid this issue, you should be aware of natural and artificial products and be able to differentiate between them. So, if you manage to get naturally extracted xylitol, use it without any doubts or fear. Otherwise, make sure you at least avoid the xylitol manufactured from GMOs. It is very likely that as a part of marketing techniques, the dealers of processed sugar xylitol will claim more about the special benefits one can get from it like cavity fighting and cure of ear problems. However, make sure that you do not get tricked by such partial true claims. It is true that occasionally this processed sugar is used to treat some special problems, but we must not forget that using it regularly in your diet can even poison your liver. So, it is better that you avoid manufactured xylitol where possible.
